Carrowmore Megalithic Cemetery
Step into Ireland’s oldest and densest collection of Neolithic passage tombs, set within a dramatic landscape on the Cúil Íorra Peninsula near Sligo town.
Access is currently limited to outdoor areas only until 12 March 2026.
About the Site
Carrowmore features more than 35 passage tombs built almost 6,000 years ago, making it the oldest and densest concentration of Neolithic tombs in Ireland. The cemetery sits against Sligo’s rural backdrop and is watched over by Knocknarea mountain and Queen Maeve’s Cairn.
A restored cottage on site houses an exhibition that introduces the landscape and its archaeology.

Getting Here
Carrowmore is 5km from the Sligo/Dublin road, just off the N4 at the N4–R292 junction. From Sligo town centre, follow the R292 toward Strandhill for about 4km.
The site is close to the Queen Maeve Trail on Knocknarea Hill, around 8km away.
